The two sections of the Balloon Observation Platform for Planetary Science (BOPPS) gondola are joined together on Sept. 8, 2014 at the NASA Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. BOPPS will study two comets that will soon visit the inner solar system: PANSTARRS (C/2012 K1) and Siding Spring (C/2013 A1), as well as a potential array of other targets including asteroids Ceres and Vesta, Earth’s moon, and Neptune and Uranus.
